The women in their Hakas have smooth movement whereas the Maori men often stomp their feet keeping a steady rhythm as they place their hands on their hips until the rest of their movements begin.
The Haka aesthetics are grounded and sturdy. The whole point of the Haka is to seem intimidating. It would make sense that the performers stand their ground.
Facial expressions, hisses and slapping is common to show strength and intimidation.
